Meet the DePIN Base Camp II line-up

Let’s be honest: For all its promise and excitement, the DePIN space still has a mountain to climb. Real-world adoption doesn’t come all by itself, scaling always comes with pains — there’s a ton of work to do, a real ascent. And each proper ascent, a real adventure with a shiny tall peak (pun intended) ahead, begins in a base camp.

Yes, the second DePIN Base Camp by Outlier Ventures and peaq, this time with 1kx joining as the capital partner, is here. Five teams join in to prepare for the ascent, eager to bring their vision to life at put Web3 at the core of everything from weather forecasting to energy and satellite comms. To get the blood flowing, each gets a $200,000 ticket from 1kx, as well as mentorship, networking opportunities, and an unmatched amount of DePIN know-how from peaq and Outlier Ventures.

You’ll see some familiar names here — here is the Base Camp II line-up:

Aira Labs (UK): “Air quality you can trust — powered by the people.” Aira Labs is building the world's largest community-powered platform for air quality data. Their goal is to empower individuals with actionable insights to reduce their exposure to air pollutants while earning rewards for sharing the local air pollution data through stylish wearables.

SkyX (Singapore): “The Starlink for Weather.” Building on peaq, SkyX is revolutionizing weather forecasting by combining AI, blockchain, and decentralized data collection. SkyX integrates proprietary SKY-100 and SKY-300 weather stations into a Web3-powered network rewarding people for collecting local weather data.

Beacon Protocol (USA): “The Private Data Network for Smarter AI.” The rising Agentic Economy needs access to private data to provide real-time insights and value. Beacon Protocol unlocks higher-level capabilities by providing models and agents access to private and topical data sets in a way that protects ownership and rewards data creators. Anyone can onboard their favourite community to Beacon today and start earning.

Combinder (Austria): “Universal Energy Income Protocol.” Building on peaq, Combinder is a DePIN that aggregates idle electrical devices into a global pool of micro-flexibilities to generate revenues in energy markets. Taking a software-first approach, Combinder allows anyone to integrate and monetize their existing appliances like EV chargers, tumble dryers and heating systems, by adding them to a user-friendly mobile app. It makes global energy grids more flexible and resilient while also creating the perfect environment for agentic AI.

Decen Space (Germany): “Democratizing Space Communications.” Decen Space makes satellite communication cheaper and easier. The platform connects satellite companies needing to send data with a worldwide community of people, institutions, and businesses who own ground station antennas. With the right equipment, anyone can join the network and earn rewards for helping satellites talk to Earth. This makes space communication more accessible and creates income opportunities on the ground.

As part of the 12-week program, these teams will receive comprehensive mentorship from leading Web3 and DePIN experts, including David Rakusan, Investment Manager at RockawayX, and Tony Drummond, Founder of Tokenomics.net. Additionally, they will have opportunities to network with the leading investors such as Aweh Ventures as well as top industry names, including Dennis van der Vecht, Head of Blockchain at 10Clouds. The program will include workshops focused on tokenomics, marketing, engineering and fundraising as well as sessions with industry experts.

The second rendition of the DePIN Base Camp has drawn a total of 115 applications, slightly more than Base Camp I, which Outlier Ventures and peaq launched in 2024 with support from Borderless Capital. Base Camp I featured a diverse line-up of 6 innovative projects, including smart home DePIN Aydo, decentralized compute network Kaisar, telecom data DePIN Roam Network, digital twin platform ROVR, data security protocol Touchbrick, and gaming DePIN YOM.
